Dr. Michael Piccione stays attuned to the latest advances in dentistry to ensure we are always offering the most up-to-date dental care possible. Advances in dental technology make care more efficient and comfortable than ever before — like the intraoral camera, digital x-rays, or our digital impression system for CEREC one-visit dentistry. Choosing a dentist who stays on top of the latest advances in dentistry ensures you receive the best dental care possible.
A picture really is worth a thousand words in dentistry, and the intraoral camera allows us to show you precisely what is going on in your smile. The small tool captures crystal-clear images and transfers them onto a screen that’s located right at chairside. The intraoral camera is an invaluable tool at our practice. It helps us involve you in your treatment plan to ensure that you remain fully informed about what’s going on with your dental care.
X-rays are an essential part of each patient’s preventive dental care treatment plan. By revealing what is going on beneath the visible surface of the teeth, digital x-rays provide valuable information that we wouldn’t otherwise have.
Digital x-rays use electronic sensors rather than traditional x-ray film to capture in-depth images of your teeth and oral structures. These images are viewable instantly and can be enlarged several times to help make detecting potential issues much easier for your doctor. Even better, digital x-rays reduce the exposure to radiation up to 90% compared to traditional x-rays.
The CEREC system makes one-visit restorations possible with digital impressions, which recreate a three-dimensional image of your teeth within seconds. The traditional method requires patients to bite down on a piece of wet, gooey cement for several minutes. It’s a process that can be uncomfortable at best, and next to impossible at worst (for patients with sensitive gag reflexes). In addition to being more comfortable, digital impressions also greatly improve the accuracy of the model we create.
Dr. Piccione have invested in a soft tissue laser which allows us to perform periodontal procedures more precisely and efficiently. Traditional periodontal procedures to treat gum disease or to recontour gummy smiles often require the use of a scalpel and stitches, which go hand in hand with longer recovery periods. But, with the help of our SOL soft tissue laser, we can blast through diseased or excess periodontal tissue with extreme precision and care.
The computed tomography cone beam scanner at our office allows us to capture an even more detailed image of your mouth’s complex structures. Whether we need to locate the precise location of your nerves and bone tissue to place an implant or locate an oral infection, the CBCT scanner is the right tool for the job. By using highly advanced software and 3D X-ray capabilities, we can create a detailed cross-section of your oral cavity for more effective diagnostics and treatment planning. Scans take less than a minute to complete and are completely safe when administered by a professional.
