Children’s Dentistry – Sunnyvale

Helping Kids Develop Healthy, Happy Smiles

At the dental office in Sunnyvale of Michael A. Piccione, DDS, we know the importance of keeping kids smiling. Many parents who trust us with all of their dental care needs tell us they thought children had to go to a specialist for dental care. For young patients who need advanced treatment due to concerns with dental development, visiting a specialist may be recommended. However, for kids with basically healthy smiles, visiting a family dentist like Dr. Piccione may be a better option. If you’re new to Sunnyvale or looking for a dental office home for your whole family, look no further. Our team of dental professionals loves to work with kids and adults at every age and stage of dental development. We pride ourselves on creating a dental office environment where kids and adults will always feel welcome, relaxed, and right at home. If you’re ready to find out more or you need to set aside a block of appointments to bring your family into our Sunnyvale dental office, give us a call. We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Dental Services for Kids

Just like we do for our adult patients, we recommend that kids come to see us twice a year for preventive dental checkups and teeth cleanings. These biannual appointments are key to helping kids achieve and maintain their healthiest smiles, and they allow us the opportunity to create positive associations with the dental office for kids as they grow up with our team. Some of the kid-friendly dental services we provide include:

  • Family checkups and teeth cleanings
  • Oral hygiene routine review and recommendations
  • Tooth-colored fillings
  • Same day emergency dentistry services
  • Digital dental technologies for comfortable and streamlined treatment planning

Benefits of Family Dentistry

Mother brushing baby’s teeth

While a pediatric dentistry specialist can help kids who are experiencing abnormal dental development and those who may need some extra care due to health or behavioral concerns, visiting a family dentist is beneficial for many patients. Some of the many advantages of bringing the whole family to see Dr. Piccione in Sunnyvale include:

  • Comfort – kids grow up with our dentist and team, and they don’t have to go through a potentially upsetting transition to an adult practice after permanent teeth erupt.
  • Convenience – you can bring the whole family to see us on the same day, so you don’t have to schedule numerous trips to multiple dental office locations.
  • Consistency – Dr. Piccione and his team of professionals will be familiar with your child’s smile as it grows and changes. That means we can offer conservative and consistent treatment planning at every stage of dental development.

Helping Kids with At-Home Hygiene

We love having the chance to see your kids twice a year for their dental checkups and teeth cleanings, but the other 363 days of the year we need a little help from you. In order to ensure kids keep their smiles healthy all year-round, we have the following recommendations for parents:

  • Lead by example! If kids see you brushing and flossing every day, they will be more likely to keep up with their own at-home hygiene routine.
  • Monitor the results. Keep an eye on kids while they brush and floss to ensure they’re doing a thorough job. You may also want to invest in disclosing tabs to help kids see any plaque they’re leaving behind.
  • Make oral health fun. Always offer positive reinforcement for a job well done and try not to make brushing and flossing teeth seem like a negative thing. We want kids to build positive associations with oral healthcare that they’ll take with them for a lifetime.
