Orthodontic Treatment Doesn't Have To Be a Hassle

Woman having an Invisalign consultation

Dr. Michael Piccione and the rest of our team want all of our patients to have a healthy smile that they feel great about. That's why we offer Invisalign; an alternative type of orthodontic treatment that doesn't require wearing brackets and wires. This popular procedure has helped over 6 million patients, both teens and adults alike, straighten their teeth without the hassle of metal braces. If you're looking for an effective, discreet type of orthodontic treatment, give us a call today to schedule a consultation with Dr. Piccione!

How Does Invisalign Work?

Digital image of crowded teeth

First, you'll have a consultation so we can make sure Invisalign is right for you. From there, you can get started in just a couple of visits, spaced several weeks apart. At the first appointment, we'll take images and digital impressions to send to the Invisalign lab. We'll also be able to show you virtual results of how your smile will look and give you an estimate of your treatment time.

The Invisalign lab usually takes about three weeks to custom-make your clear aligner trays and send them back to us. You'll return a second time to pick up your first set of trays and get detailed instructions on how to wear them. We'll also put temporary, tooth-colored  “attachments” on your teeth that will anchor your trays in place and help them create the correct movements.

Then you'll leave our office wearing your first set of trays. To get your results on time, you'll need to keep them in at least 20-22 hours per day. Then you'll wear a new pair every two weeks until your treatment is completed. You'll also come back for a progress visit every 4-8 weeks to pick up additional trays.

Indications For Invisalign

Man with a beautiful smile

One of the biggest advantages of Invisalign is that it works for so many different alignment problems. With that said, keep in mind that Dr. Piccione may recommend braces if you have severe issues to correct.

Crowded Teeth

If your teeth overlap one another or are simply too close together, it's more difficult to keep them clean. This makes you more susceptible to cavities and gum problems, not to mention that it affects your appearance. Invisalign is a great way to bring your teeth into alignment and give you a straight, even smile.

Spaces Between the Teeth

Having spaces or gaps is also quite common and may make you feel self-conscious or embarrassed of your teeth. Invisalign is a great way to bring your teeth together and give you a gap-free smile.

Bite Alignment

If you have an overbite, underbite, or crossbite, you're at risk for pain and dysfunction in your jaw joint, uneven wear on your teeth, clenching and grinding, and other problems over time. All of these can be corrected with Invisalign.

Benefits of Invisalign Orthodontics

Many people opt for Invisalign because it's an invisible way to straighten their teeth. But, as a cosmetic dentist Sunnyvale, we've found that it provides many other benefits as well:

  • Less treatment time – On average, Invisalign takes just 9-18 months, as opposed to 12-24 months for metal braces.
  • Comfort – Smooth aligner trays don't irritate your lips, cheeks, or gums.
  • Flexibility – Although you need to wear your trays least 20-22 hours per day, you can also remove them for special events such as a first date or job interview.
  • Better oral hygiene – Since you can simply remove your trays beforehand, you'll find it much easier to brush and floss than you would in brackets and wires.

How Much Does Invisalign Cost?

Your smile is just as unique as you are, and your Invisalign treatment plan will be unique as well. After your consultation, we'll discuss the number of aligner trays you'll need, your treatment time, and other factors that will determine your total cost. If you have dental insurance, we'll be happy to explain your benefits and tell you whether you have orthodontic coverage as well.

However, we can say one thing for sure: Orthodontic treatment is an excellent investment in your oral health, self-confidence, and overall appearance that will pay off for life. And it's hard to overestimate the value of that!
