Dr. Michael Piccione and the rest of our team want all of our patients to have a healthy smile that they feel great about. That's why we offer Invisalign; an alternative type of orthodontic treatment that doesn't require wearing brackets and wires. This popular procedure has helped over 6 million patients, both teens and adults alike, straighten their teeth without the hassle of metal braces. If you're looking for an effective, discreet type of orthodontic treatment, give us a call today to schedule a consultation with Dr. Piccione!
First, you'll have a consultation so we can make sure Invisalign is right for you. From there, you can get started in just a couple of visits, spaced several weeks apart. At the first appointment, we'll take images and digital impressions to send to the Invisalign lab. We'll also be able to show you virtual results of how your smile will look and give you an estimate of your treatment time.
The Invisalign lab usually takes about three weeks to custom-make your clear aligner trays and send them back to us. You'll return a second time to pick up your first set of trays and get detailed instructions on how to wear them. We'll also put temporary, tooth-colored “attachments” on your teeth that will anchor your trays in place and help them create the correct movements.
One of the biggest advantages of Invisalign is that it works for so many different alignment problems. With that said, keep in mind that Dr. Piccione may recommend braces if you have severe issues to correct.
If your teeth overlap one another or are simply too close together, it's more difficult to keep them clean. This makes you more susceptible to cavities and gum problems, not to mention that it affects your appearance. Invisalign is a great way to bring your teeth into alignment and give you a straight, even smile.
Having spaces or gaps is also quite common and may make you feel self-conscious or embarrassed of your teeth. Invisalign is a great way to bring your teeth together and give you a gap-free smile.
If you have an overbite, underbite, or crossbite, you're at risk for pain and dysfunction in your jaw joint, uneven wear on your teeth, clenching and grinding, and other problems over time. All of these can be corrected with Invisalign.
Many people opt for Invisalign because it's an invisible way to straighten their teeth. But, as a cosmetic dentist Sunnyvale, we've found that it provides many other benefits as well:
Your smile is just as unique as you are, and your Invisalign treatment plan will be unique as well. After your consultation, we'll discuss the number of aligner trays you'll need, your treatment time, and other factors that will determine your total cost. If you have dental insurance, we'll be happy to explain your benefits and tell you whether you have orthodontic coverage as well.
However, we can say one thing for sure: Orthodontic treatment is an excellent investment in your oral health, self-confidence, and overall appearance that will pay off for life. And it's hard to overestimate the value of that!
If you’ve been self-conscious about your crooked, gapped, or crowded teeth for far too long, Invisalign in Sunnyvale may be just the treatment your smile needs. This amazing treatment can help you achieve optimal oral health as well as an increased level of self-confidence. However, odds are you have at least a few questions about Invisalign you want to ask before going through with it. That’s why we’ve answered some of the Invisalign questions we get asked the most often here at our Sunnyvale office.
When you first place your aligners in your mouth, your teeth may feel a bit sore and sensitive. This is perfectly normal, though. In fact, it’s a sign that your treatment is working. Invisalign works by exerting a gentle pressure on your teeth to shift a small portion of your smile at a time into the desired position.
Keep in mind that any discomfort should pass after a few days at most. It may help to switch to a new set of aligners right before bed so that you can sleep through the first several hours of the adjustment process. You could also take a store-bought pain reliever as the label instructs.
Initially, it may sound like you have a slight lisp. This is because many of the sounds you make are created by placing your tongue against the back of your front teeth or the roof of your mouth, where the edges of the aligners are now located. As such, your tongue has to grow accustomed to the new object in its way. This process may take about a week. In the meantime, you can speed up the adjustment period by practicing speaking aloud. Specifically, try counting from sixty to seventy over and over or saying “Mississippi” repeatedly.
At least once a day (preferably at the same time each day so that you establish a routine), use a soft-bristled toothbrush to brush a clear liquid soap onto your aligners while running them under cold or lukewarm (never hot) water. To prevent your aligners from staining or trapping cavity-causing bacteria against your teeth, make sure to rinse them out and brush your teeth after eating and before placing them back in your mouth.
Chances are you’ll have to see your cosmetic dentist in Sunnyvale for an appointment every four to six weeks while you’re undergoing Invisalign treatment. However, you should spend less time overall in the dental chair than you would if you had braces. Most of these Invisalign visits will be short (half an hour or less). All we’ll have to do is briefly evaluate your progress and give you your next few sets of aligners.
